Review- Awarapan, a smouldering emotional saga

Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Soul is not where it lives but where it loves’, and Awarapan says it all.
Awarapan is yet another Vishesh Films’ universal depiction of lost love and the constant restiveness of loss. The film narrates forbidden love with essential sensuality and sensibility. The film may remind you of Rakesh Roshan’s Koyla but the mould is different.
Emraan Hashmi’s performance stands out and eclipses others. The film measures Hashmi’s acting frame-by-frame .The pain and the intensity of the character is penetrating and Hashmi has not disappointed at all.
The film revolves round Shivam (Emraan Hashmi), who yearns for joy but finds nothing but pain and loneliness. It is a journey of a heartbroken lover serving his Gangster boss Malik, who runs a chain of hotels in Hong Kong.
One day, Malik (Asutosh Rana) asks him to do an unusual job. He asks Shivam to keep an eye on his young mistress (Mrinalini Sharma), a Pakistani girl who is victim of human trafficking. Her innocence touches the man and reminds him of his lost love (Shriya Saran).
The plot is taut and each character has been chiseled out of the storyboard. Both the actors have rawness, which add to the innocence quotient of the movie. Shaad Ali (Woh Lamhe fame) has gone few steps ahead in acting and Purab Kohli has given Ashutosh Rana’s nephew character the essential eccentric quality.
Music by Pritam has Sufi elements like (Maula mere Maula) and the smash hit compositions like (To Phir Aao and Mahiya). Tera Mera Rishta has trendy beats and is a party stirrer.
The movie shows the sense of loss which is common to all humans, however, certainly, have that potential to hit its target audience - the youth.
