Beauty trends: Spring 2011

Saturday, March 12, 2011
Months before spring had arrived, fashion runways already begun revealing the new 2009 spring beauty trends. It's a mixed bag this spring of refreshingly healthy new looks as well as a few tried and true favorites from the fall and winter seasons. The hottest cosmetic trends veer toward a softer look with a touch of fantasy - soft, smoky eyes, sheer complexions and thick long faux eyelashes. Definitely, Glam is still in, but natural isn't out.
Shimmery neon makeup and hair are sure to make spring sizzle and eyes pop. Glam silvery faux eyelashes continue to add a sense of fantasy to everyday fashion. Bold, bright colors in gold, tangerine, and crimson along the eyes with thick eyelashes define the beauty trends of spring 2009. Also popular are brilliant purples and ocean blues for a dramatic eye popping effect. And if that's not enough to convince you that Glam is crossing boundaries, the spring of 2009 escorted in evening wear bling as an anytime of wear, day or night. Shimmering metallic colors like bronze, silver and gold add a glamorous yet cool ethereal quality to the season. This is certainly the season for the high street look, and those in favor are going to feel very much in their own element.
On the other end of the spectrum, a trend toward the minimalistic nude look is back. Barely there lips are back in. Sheer, transparent color and texture are beauiful this spring. The nude face is not a new look by any means, but it's an enduring one. It's all about allowing your radiance to shine through. The natural beauty look continues to grow in a trend as consumers favor green beauty products along with skin care and beauty products which enhance overall health and inner radiance.
The spring outdoor natural look is achieved with applying a sheer bronzer all over for a natural healthy glow. Softly apply sheer metallic color to the eyelids, while also applying white eyeliner around the eyes for an effect that will make your eyes pop. Goodbye to heavy black eyeliner. Nearly all makeup lines are promoting violet eyeliner, which complements every skin tone, for a soft smoky look. A flawless, translucent skin is also beautifully modern right now. Choose an oil-free matte foundation for coverage that goes on sheer and also nourishes healthy skin. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is the season's perfect pick-me-up, as it also helps to firm the skin.
For those with naturally full eyebrows you'll be thrilled to know full dramatic eyebrows have made their come back. You'll want to finish off your natural look by trimming the eyebrows, yet allowing them to naturally accent your soft, smoky eyes for a full beautiful look.

Fall Fashion Trends 2011

Hot Pink

Photo © Jason Kempin/WireImages
Pretty in pink is going to be the slogan for the fall, which might not be such a bad thing. Pink was all over the runway looking chic on dresses, jackets, blouses and even accessories! Anyone can pull off hot pink and if you're scared to go all out, try a hot pink handbag, bangle or even shoes! Of course if pink isn't your thing, relax, yellow is still going strong after making a fine showing this spring.

Daytime Sparkle

Photo © Thomas Concordia/WireImages
Forget everything you know about metallics and sequins being just for the night. Designers are breaking them out for the daytime and bringing some much needed sparkle to gloomy (and often gray) fall and winter weather. Pair them with casual work trousers and under a blazer or even with jeans. Or use a sparkly scarf or belt to dramatically accent a monochromatic look (another of fall's hot trends). A little sparkle goes a long way!

Asymmetrical

Photo © Randy Brooke/WireImages
Is this style ever out? There's something very sexy yet very chic about a little bare shoulder and obviously designers totally agree. Asymmetrical dresses and tops were all over the runway for fall in all different cuts, colors and styles. Apparently shoulders are the new cleavage!

Gray/Black

If you're a little more conservative and not up to sporting either hot pink or yellow, then you'll have no problem finding plenty of stylish duds to sport come fall. Who knows if it's due to the recession (boo) or not, but there were plenty of neutrals like gray and black all over the runways. Of course mixing and matching these neutrals with some of falls other hot trends, such as sparkles and hot pink also make for a great look.

Shoulder Pads

Calling all '80s fashionistas--time to sift through your closets for your old blazers and suits! Bigger is apparently better and this time it applies to shoulders. These shoulder pads don't give women the appearance of a football linebacker, but instead have a more architectural grace that really appears slimming. The outfit is often contoured down towards the waist so it doesn't have a bulky look at all, but actually looks quite feminine.

Hats

Are we finally catching on that hats are absolutely chic and adorable? Maybe so if the fall 2009 runways are any indication. Many models wore jaunty hats over frilly dresses, sophisticated pantsuits or even gowns. So does this mean we'll be seeing more hats when we walk down the street? Only if we're lucky!

The Role Of IT Operations In Archiving

Stephanie Balaouras
Yesterday IBM announced the availability of their new IBM Information Archive Appliance. The appliance replaces IBM’s DR550. The new appliance has significantly increased scale and performance because it’s built on IBM’s Global Parallel File System (GPFS), more interfaces (NAS and an API to Tivoli Storage Manager) and accepts information from multiple sources – IBM content management and archiving software and eventually 3rd party software. Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is embedded in the appliance to provide automated tiered disk and tape storage as well as block-level deduplication. TSM’s block-level deduplication will reduce storage capacity requirements and its disk and tape management capabilities will let IT continue to leverage tape for long-term data retention. All these appliance subcomponents are transparent to the IT end user who manages the appliance – he or she just sees one console where they define collections and retention policies for those collections.
It’s a solid (albeit a few years late) announcement from IBM. As a leader in content management and archiving software, it was always puzzling that IBM lacked an attractive archive storage platform to complement these offerings. In addition, archiving is still a priority for both the business and IT. Business leaders remain concerned with archiving data appropriately for regulatory compliance and legal discovery. IT struggles to keep up with storage growth which continues to grow at 30%-40% each year and to control storage costs. IT has always wanted to archive infrequently accessed data from expensive production storage platforms to less expensive archive disk and tape but their hands are tied unless business owners, legal and knowledge management professionals define appropriate retention policies as well as their functional requirements in a solution.
Which leads to a question that I’ve always struggled with myself? What is the role of the IT operations professional in archiving? It’s clear that IT operations professionals are not responsible for defining the actual retention policies but what are IT’s responsibilities and how can IT influence business owners, legal, internal auditors and knowledge management? I’m still fleshing out the list responsibilities but here’s what I have so far:
  1. IT can recommend a retention policy for certain data sets based on an analysis of the storage environment. For example, if you’ve examined your environment and you’ve determined that users have not accessed 60% of your files in two years, these file are good candidates for archiving.
  2. IT researches, shortlists, and participates in the evaluation of archiving software or service based on the functional requirements that business, legal, audit, and knowledge management professionals define. This could include the evaluation of on-premise solutions, cloud-based solutions or a hybrid of both.
  3. IT researches, shortlists, and selects the appropriate storage archive to physically store the data. This could be a generic disk storage system or a purpose-built storage system and it also includes tape and even cloud storage services.
  4. IT defines the architectural requirements, scalability requirements, and performance requirements of the archiving software or service. At the end of the day, IT operations will manage the archiving solution end-to-end. IT operations will be responsible for maintenance of the archiving software, the database, operating system and the virtual or physical server that it runs on and of course, IT is responsible for the disk and tape that physically stores the archived data. This is one area where IT operations must really exert itself influence and its own requirements. Too often, performance, scale and system manageability are not taken into the selection of the archiving software or the determination of the total cost of ownership. When a software solution doesn’t scale or perform IT ops answers the calls from the help desk and is on the hook to solve it.
  5. IT is partly responsible for maintaining the long-term accessibility of the data in the storage archive. This issue here is the backwards compatibility of tape formats. Tape formats such as LTO are only backwards read compatible with the previous two tape format generations. This means that you’ll need to periodically recall tapes from the deep archive and migrate the data to the latest generation. This address tape media deterioration and tape format obsolescence but it doesn’t address the obsolescence of the application that generated the data. Call the knowledge management team for that one.
This is just a starting list. I’m interested to hear from other IT ops professionals if I’ve missed something or if you disagree with anything on my current list. I’m also interested to hear the struggles you have with archiving.

The Benefits of a Secured Loan

A secured homeowner loan is, as its name suggests, a loan secured against your property. Secured loans require no upfront survey, legal or other fees. The loan can be used for many uses, including paying off outstanding loans or credit cards and reducing your monthly repayments. Also, the loan can be used for home improvements, a new car, a wedding, a holiday or to inject cash into your business.
There are various specialist lenders willing to advance finance secured by way of a second charge against the your home over a term of between 5 and 25 years. Generally speaking, the maximum combined loan-to-value (LTV) of the existing mortgage, plus the proposed extra secured loan, should not exceed 90%. In fact, some lenders will restrict the maximum LTV to 80% if for business purposes.
As the finance lender would be second in the queue for security, this involves a slightly higher risk which means that a higher interest rate would be charged, the interest rate depending upon the applicant’s credit history. Although secured homeowner loans might be more costly in terms of the interest charged in some cases, the following advantages may apply.
  • A secured loan may usually be raised much faster than finance using a remortgage. Whereas it might typically take three weeks to arrange finance via a secured loan, it usually takes at least six weeks to remortgage.
  • The applicant may be tied to a mortgage lender offering a low interest rate for say 3 or 5 years, which might involve early redemption charges if the mortgage is redeemed prematurely. In using a secured loan, the mortgage can remain in place to avoid this charge.
  • Whilst the applicant may have a 25 year mortgage, they may not wish to extend his business finance for such a long term, which would be the case if they remortgaged.
  • Finance raised via remortgaging cannot be offset against the future profits of a business for tax purposes. However, a separate secured loan can be clearly identified as being for business use and offset against tax accordingly.
When thinking about applying for a secured homeowner loan, it is wide to consult with a professional loan broker who will search the market and source the best secured loan for you from a wide panel of lenders.

They instruct students about driving through oil, water, and other hazards on the freeway as well as how to maneuver past hazards in the freeway. In addition, students are trained how to drive in heavy traffic and what hazards to be aware of when motoring at night. Taking Things Slow

This Monday I had the privilege of listening to myself play Viola. It was a weird experience for me-not cause I've never heard myself play before-because I had forgotten I let Jacob record me. This particular performance for my friend occurred within the first month of college life at TLU. It was interesting to listen and see myself play. I was surprised to find that it sounded quite nice, especially after my summer break without any practice. :O But it made me feel accomplished.
College life is tough-REEEALLLY TOUGH-but it's manageable. We have a lot of readings and studying to do, all while trying to fit in time for our friends. To say the least, it's unpleasant. But you have to push through. You don't need to warp your brain cramming in information non-stop, we're not machines you know. If you're like me, you've made some changes to adapt to the flow of college and are doing pretty well for the most part. So now I believe it's time for you to take things slow. Gaze out onto the campus-if it's not raining-and admire its beauty. Go for a walk, get some fresh air. Most of all, take time to look at how far we've all come this past month adjusting and pursuing our education. Stop and see the work you've put in since the start of this semester, how it's payed off, and how we're almost halfway there! Remember you've worked hard to be where you are, and we must continue working hard to move forward. Sometimes, like this Monday, you'll catch a glimpse into performances from your past and boast of your success, realizing its a constant slope upward to improvement. We're all doing well, and only 4 more years to go!

Fun Activities for High School Students

Fun Activities for High Schoolers

Twenty Questions!
This is an interesting icebreaker activity which helps the participants to know each other well. Frame a questionnaire which has twenty fun questions like "Have you visited more than two foreign countries?" "Do you speak more than three languages?" "Have you ever lied about an important thing to your family?" "Have you ever ridden a horse?". Distribute this questionnaire amongst all the students. As soon as you signal, the students have to approach the others in the group and ask them these questions. When they find a person who has done or knows the things asked in the questionnaire, they have to write their name in front of the question. Give the group about fifteen minutes to complete this activity. After the stipulated time, the one who has the maximum questions answered is declared the winner!

Let's Create Something!
One of the team building activities for high school students is to divide them into groups of five to six each, give them some old newspapers and magazines, charts, markers and painting colors and then ask them to make a collage on their own group's strengths and weaknesses. They can include names of each of the group members and explain his strengths via the collage or they can tell the strengths of the whole group. Give the students about half an hour to complete this high school team building game. After that, the collages are judged on the basis of content and creativity and the winner team is given a prize.

Buddies!
High schoolers are at such a tender age that they often need someone with whom they can talk and discuss various issues in their life. So, you can conduct an activity, at the end of which, you make pairs amongst the high school students who help each other out in times of need, whether in their personal life or with studies. To conduct this activity, have the high schoolers sit in a circle and place various kinds of beads and a bundle of strings in the middle of the circle. When you signal, the high schoolers have to get up, take the beads and the strings and weave bracelets for their buddies. At the end of the activity, you pass around a parcel which has names of all the students in the group in folded chits of paper. One by one, all the students take out the chits and find out who their buddies are. After that, each of them gets up, one by one, and ties the bracelet around the wrist of their buddy.

Painting T-shirts!
Another of the fun activities for high school students, which will also help in spreading awareness in them about the various causes, is to conduct a t-shirt painting contest. Each of the participants is give a plain white t-shirt and some painting colors. They have to paint the t-shirt highlighting some social, environmental, political or economic cause. In the end, the one who paints the most creative and meaningful t-shirt is given a prize.

Today's Special!
On the school's notice board, mark a permanent place wherein it is the duty of the high schoolers to write some interesting trivia on what is special about that particular day. Some of the things that can be included are "famous people born on this day" and "any historical events that took place on this day". Besides this, some famous quotes on positive thinking, confidence and life in general can be included. The high schoolers get to decide amongst themselves who is responsible for filling in this information on a particular day. With this activity, the teachers should make sure that each and every student gets a chance to write on the notice board and that the activity is not just confined to a few students.

How to Get a Girl Back

You had a wonderful romantic relationship with the girl you love; but now, it has all changed because somehow, that love, bond is no longer present. You chose to break it off with her, no matter what the reasons, and are now feeling immensely nervous as life doesn’t seem complete without her. And that desperation keeps striking back at you, asking you to do something to make it all better again. So how can you it all better? Is there a potion which you can drink that will take the pain away? Or will magic help bring her back in your life? Perhaps there’s something you can do to bring that lost love back. Would you like to find out?

How to Get a Girl Back After You Dump Her

Every unique relationship and the decision to end it will be poles apart. Now at the moment, I really can’t say what is it that happened between you two that made things worse. So I am going to go over some common issues that occur in many relationships and take it from there. Let’s hope I can come close to your situation and help you find the answers for how to get a girlfriend back.

She Broke Up with You for Someone Else
Now whatever be her reasons, your relationship has suffered tremendously. So how can you make it all better? If she broke up with and you feel that there really weren’t any major issues between the two of you, then the reason points towards her being attracted to someone else. This is very common in relationships where the couple doesn’t spend more quality time with one another or has that much in common. So the first thing you need to do is have a heart-to-heart conversation with her. She needs to know that you are missing her terribly (don’t sound pitiful here) and that her existence in your life is irreplaceable. Girls love it when guys are honest and open about their feelings.

Find out if the other guy, whom she’s with right now is good for her or not. If there’s something fishy about this guy, let’s say he’s two timing her or isn’t giving her the respect and love which she deserves, then you definitely need to be the one for her. Don’t let her slip out of your hands. Tell her that you are ready to work on the issues that kept bothering her and you want to make it right. If it hasn’t been that long (your breakup), then chances are that she’s not completely over you and the other guy doesn’t really mean that much to her.

You Broke Up with Her for Someone Else
Well, this is a classic "guy move" and I feel really bad when this happens. Whenever girls become a bit too serious in a relationship and the guy isn’t ready for it, instead of working together, he decides to run for it; that’s such a foul move. And now, for who knows what reason(s), you want her back. Know this - she’s going to be angry with you because you hurt her real bad. Even though she might not be over you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that she wants you back. She is afraid that you might see some prettier or sexier girl and leave her again. And that is why, she will want to keep her distance from you.

What you can do in this situation is to make her believe that you have truly come back to her. This might take some time and she may not trust you completely, but at least she will try. Give her the space she requires; to think about the past and if she does give you a chance, what is it that she wants from you. Anything and everything she asks you to do, do it. No doubts, no questions. If you really want to know how to get a girl back, then be ready to do whatever she asks for because frankly, she deserves it. This is going to be the time when she tests you, makes you jump through hoops. But the point to remember is, after all that (if you pass in her test), you will get her.

You Both Called It Quits
There comes a time in a relationship when a couple mutually decides to end it. Now it might just be that you both did the same thing; but it was in the heat of the moment. You both had a terrible fight, an unsolved misunderstanding, or thought you two have nothing in common. But now the feeling of "wanting her back" is creeping inside you and there’s nothing you can do about it. You wish to speak to her, see her, and touch her again, but all in vain. So now what do we do?

Call her and see if she agrees to meet you somewhere. Go to a public place, a mall or meet for coffee and take this time to open up to her. She needs to know that you are thinking of her all the time. Even though you both are not together at the moment, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you. Maybe she wants to get back with you as well. You need to clear the air and work on your flaws, misunderstandings, and arguments. Every relationship has them but that doesn’t mean that you keep running away from them all the time. Don’t let her leave still being angry with you. If no decision is made right now, let her go only with sweet and loving thoughts of you. Pay her a romantic compliment and/or remind her of those beautiful times you’ve shared together. All this needs to be at the surface of her thoughts where she can think of you more in a romantic kind of a way. If you follow this tip properly, then and only then can you get your girlfriend back.

Teen Sex and Pregnancy: Part of a Bigger Problem

Thursday, March 10, 2011

There is nothing worse for any physician than to find a dangerous medical problem in a patient and feel powerless to help. That's how the whole country seems to feel as it hears about gloomy statistics on teen pregnancy released this month from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The findings show a 3 percent jump in teens having babies, following 14 years of decline. Many adults seem to have given up even trying to influence teen sexual behavior, and the statistics on teen sex have incited plenty of finger-pointing at sex-education programs as if they are the central solution to this very complex problem. This is the wrong reaction to what is a major public health issue. Viewing this as a nonpartisan, nonideological, teen health issue—which also affects some 435,000 babies born into woefully disadvantaged circumstances—what emerges in all fairness is that the 3 percent jump between 2005 and 2006 (the most recent analyzed) in births among teens between 15 and 19 years of age equals the 3 percent increase in birthrates for all women. The year 2006 was an especially fertile one in America. And one good trend is that births among girls under 15 actually fell a bit. But, parents, heed this: The birthrate among all unmarried women rose an astounding 7 percent to almost 40 percent of all births—accounting for 1,641,946 little ones. Thus, out-of-wedlock births are a trend in society at large. In fact, the birthrate for all unmarried women has risen almost without interruption for 60 years. In the 1940s, when the first baby boomers were being born, it was closer to 4 percent.
However, unmarried teenagers having babies are most apt to disadvantage both themselves and their babies for life. But still, let's give the bulk of young people some credit. Half of teens get through high school never having had sex, and many others have been largely abstinent. Teen girls in particular are aware of what is happening to their peers when they get pregnant in high school: An unwanted pregnancy puts girls in a mess emotionally, academically, healthwise, and financially.
The Kaiser Family Foundation, an independent health policy group dedicated to providing information and analysis on healthcare issues, has partnered with Seventeen magazine to conduct national random telephone surveys of teens about sex. One survey studied teens ages 15 to 17 who practiced abstinence from sexual intercourse—more than half of all teens. Virtually all of them thought that staying a virgin in high school was a good idea, and said they hoped to wait until they were more mature and had a committed relationship before becoming so involved.
But many factors, not just one, weighed heavily on their decision. They included, in rank order from No. 2 down, concern about acquiring a sexually transmitted disease, their parents' views, sex education, religion, moral values, personal reputational concerns, and having friends who had not had sex. What was No. 1 on the list? Fear of an unwanted pregnancy.
So teens may be smarter than we think. Maybe some of the hand-wringing over sex education needs to be informed by the voices of these young people, particularly the teenage girls who have figured out that the burden of unwed motherhood is not for them or their future children.
As in most things unhealthy, from taking up smoking, using drugs, or having racked up a slew of sexual partners before finishing high school, teenage motivation and behavior ultimately come from within. And young people are clearly more health oriented and sensible than adults often give them credit for.

Sex & Romance issues

Sex is a key part of most relationships yet is a conversation topic some of us shy away from with partners. Raised not to discuss sex because it is an adult topic, we may find sex embarrassing and difficult to talk about when we reach adulthood. Sexual problems can have a long term impact on relationships and because it is a difficult topic to discuss, they often go unresolved. It is estimated roughly 40% of men and women have some form of sexual dysfunction, whether that be a hang up about their body, an inability to have sex or a deeper rooted problem with sex. Follow these links to find out more about sexual dysfunction from the BBC and Medical Library . If you are looking for casual fun then maybe Armchair Advice Adult Dating is for you.

So what are the most common sexual problems between partners?
  • Do you have differing levels of sexual desire? This is incredibly common. One partner wants sex more than the other and it can lead to arguments and resentment. The partner who wants more sex feels rejected and the partner who wants less feels pressured.
  • Is there enough intimacy and romance in your relationship? Romance and intimacy play an important part in providing the reassurance and trust that underpins most successful relationships. Where there is a lack of intimacy and romance one or both partners may feel unfulfilled and dissatisfied with the relationship. Try our tips for injecting romance into your life.
  • Do you or your partner have physical problems such as reaching orgasm or maintaining an erection? There can be many reasons for physical sexual problems in a relationship from distressing sexual experiences, sexual abuse, body image problems and low self esteem to underlying medical conditions and mental health issues. Some problems can be overcome by working together; others may require the intervention of a GP, sex therapist or counsellor.
  • Has your sex life become so routine or uninspiring that one or both of you have lost interest? It is important that you maintain intimacy even if you are not having sex and try to talk about the situation. Here are some tips that you can try to spice up your sex life.
  • Are you off sex because your partner doesn't do things as you would like? Lack of communication is one of the key reasons for problems in the bedroom. Do you wish he or she would do something different or stop doing something that irritates you? How does your partner know what you like or if you are in the mood for sex if you never have a conversation about it? You may not be ready for dirty talk in the bedroom but a complete lack of conversation will lead to unfulfilling sex for both parties. Talking is a key component in building trust and intimacy.
  • Has your sex life stopped? There may be periods during your relationship when the sexual element of your relationship tails off - during pregnancy, after childbirth, during times of illness or stress. However, a long term lack of sexual contact can be very damaging. You need to get to the root of why sex with your partner has stopped. It may be that one partner has an underlying physical issue or it may be indicative of a deeper relationship problem, such as infidelity.
  • Can a relationship function without sex? It is possible to have a relationship without sex if both parties agree. There are many reasons why sex may not be a necessary or feasible part of your relationship including ill health and disability. The important thing to establish is if both parties are happy not to have sex. Ask yourself these questions to see if this can work for you.
Talking about sex can be difficult, even for partners that have been together for a long period of time. Try our talking about sex exercise to encourage openness. These questions will help you to talk about sex with your partner in a comfortable and natural way.

A sex life that incorporates romance, openness and honesty is an enjoyable part of a relationship. All too often we forget that sex is about more than a physical act of intercourse, it is a way to express our feelings for another person, reaching a level of intimacy we experience with very few people in our lives.

Global Warming Issues

FAQ
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Global Warming. If you have any other questions that you’d like to ask us, please feel free to leave a comment, and we’ll be sure to answer you as soon as possible.
What is Global warming?
In the past few years, the world has experienced devastating natural disasters on a level that hasn’t been seen for decades. There is much speculation that these especially strong phenomena are due to global climate change, brought on by Global Warming. The term ‘Global Warming’ refers to the rising temperature of the earth due to an increased amount of greenhouse gases. The scientific community as a whole has determined through all research that global warming is a problem caused by human influence. The burning of fossil fuels emits greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These gases trap the heat from the sun and cause the temperature of our planet to rise. This warming of the globe could potentially alter sea level, crop yield and rain fall, and could increase the intensity and frequency of natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and droughts. For more information on global warming, please visit our research page, our student submission page, or any of the links on the left side of this page. Please also feel free to download our free informational pamphlet and our Global Warming political cartoon.
Is Hawaii in Danger?
Eventually, yes. All small islands and low-lying areas will be jeopardized if Global Warming is allowed to progress. Some of the northern hawaiian atolls have already been submerged by ocean water. Waikiki, Manhattan, and New Orleans are good examples of major cities within the United States that may be at risk of flooding.
What is the Kyoto Protocol?
The Kyoto Protocol is not something that our government should have taken lightly. Under its provisions, 37 industrialized nations including Japan and several European countries have all committed themselves to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by 33%. We, however – as the leading emitter of greenhouse gases – refused to sign and abide by it, and instead President Bush offered up an alternative plan to deal with Global Warming. He proposed a plan that gives businesses incentives to reduce power plant emissions and greenhouse gas emissions voluntarily. However, this reduction is estimated to be less than 5% over ten years.
Why Didn’t the United States Sign the Kyoto Agreement?
The Bush Administration decided not to sign the Kyoto Protocol for one reason – the economy. President Bush has said on many occasions that the Kyoto Protocol sets unrealistic goals and would hurt the American economy. And so, we’ve become a country that intentionally lowers our expectations to increase our chances of meeting our goals. We’ve become a country that has made it a practice to do what’s profitable, what benefits our economy the most, rather than what’s right for the world. Most of all, we’ve become a country that seems to have more loyalty to ourselves than to the larger whole of which we should be a part – we care more about how we as a country are doing financially than we do about how our world is doing environmentally. We have alienated ourselves in the international environmental community and have become our own separate world. We as Americans are citizens of America (most of us), but we’re more than that – we’re citizens of the world – and we have a responsibility to ourselves, our children, and our planet to clean up our act and do our part to counteract Global Warming.

Latest Fashion Statements for Women

Fashion is an ever-changing phenomenon that captivates the entire world. Our aim is to educate and enlighten young contemporary women in knowing that fashion is not limited to the rack and shopping no longer means a trip to the mall. Besides, one should never turn to a mannequin for fashion advice.

One word for spring fashion? Dresses. And lots of them. In fact, in recent trend cycles dresses have never been hotter. Sure, there were lots of great looks on the red carpet, particularly by veterans Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett. And Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gwyneth Paltrow both worked the red carpet in dresses by edgier designers that lent a modern sense of glamour to the awards; younger stars like Kirsten Dunst and Anne Hathaway (left in Valentino) opted for classic designers.

Some nice fashion tips and ways:

One of the easiest dress silhouettes to wear, the shift is a simple short shape that basically hangs straight down from the shoulder. The lack of fullness or waist definition give you a sleek line without lots of volume
Open-toe pumps and flats give you a hint of toe, but still look polished. Try patent or quilted looks for even more updated style; this Steve Madden shoe combines all three trends together.
Short fitting jackets which sit around the hips, are still the pick of this season. Jackets add shape, look very stylish and not cause anyone to look overdressed.
Denim is still going strong like usual and is a very important and essential part of the wardrobe this season. The latest trend includes darker shades of jeans like grey and black getting which got included into the traditional washes of blue.
Green is the trendiest color of the season. You can find every shade of it including emerald, Jade, bottle green, lime, mint, olive green worn in contrast with blacks and browns.
On Holidays or vacations and other events sometimes it is required that you wear a swimsuit. A classic bikini is a solid-colored one with high-cut legs which can be worn by people with any body types and still makes you look stylish throughout the season.

Why Dubai Matters

Sure, it will pay a hefty price for its debt woes. But the city-state's open economy has attracted legions of foreign investors and serves as a model for its Gulf neighbors Dubai — After Dubai announced in late November that the state-controlled investment firm Dubai World was seeking to reschedule payments on some $26 billion of debt, global markets went into a tailspin. While foreign bourses quickly rebounded, local shares have taken a pounding, and the credibility of Dubai's leadership has suffered serious damage. Yet lost in all the drama is the fact that Dubai is an important economic experiment in a strategically vital region. The humiliating debt implosion aside, the emirate remains the most dynamic business hub in the Gulf and has become a model for its neighbors.
In a region of conservative, autocratic countries long chained to the boom-and-bust cycles of the oil industry, Dubai stands out for creating an open economy that has diversified well beyond energy. With nowhere near the oil and gas reserves of other Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, it had to. "Dubai shows that if you are part of the global economy, you do well; you don't have to have oil," says David Aaron, director of the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy in Washington.
There's no denying that the emirate overreached and will pay a hefty price. Dubai led the region in allowing outsiders to own property, opening up its real estate market to foreign investment in 2003, and created a mortgage industry to finance their purchases. But lax rules ushered in wild speculation. With real estate prices rising at a double-digit annual clip, investors made a killing buying apartments with low deposits and quickly flipping them. Then when the credit crunch came, buyers fled and developers saw their cash flow dry up. Hardest hit was Nakheel, a subsidiary of Dubai World that created the iconic palm island real estate development off the coast. It has about $8 billion in debt and $13 billion in other liabilities such as bills from suppliers, Barclays Capital (BCS) reports.
Dubai's leadership has doubtless mishandled the recent turmoil. The emirate's debt problems have been looming for at least a year, but ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has made little progress in coming to grips with the challenge. As recently as October, Dubai raised nearly $2 billion in new money through an Islamic bond issue. Asked about the emirate's ability to pay its debts, Sheikh Mohammed told reporters: "I assure you, we are all right."
Part of the problem is that while Dubai is more open than its neighbors, it's no Jeffersonian democracy. It is dominated by a handful of people, and their decision-making and finances remain opaque. The debt crisis illustrates that. Until recently, no one knew how much debt Dubai had and which state-linked companies it might back in a crunch. Just as murky was the extent to which its wealthier neighbors, chiefly Abu Dhabi, were willing to bail it out. Investors who had assumed the best got spooked when it appeared Dubai couldn't meet its obligations. "To lower the perception of risk, Dubai must become more transparent quickly," says Matthew Vogel, head of emerging markets research at Barclays Capital in London.

Hassle-Free Business Climate

Nonetheless, Dubai remains the region's nimblest competitor. It is a tolerant and comfortable base for anyone seeking a foothold in the Arab world, and today Americans, Europeans, Asians, and Middle Easterners work side-by-side in the senior ranks of its big companies. Salaries are high, and there's no personal income tax. Luxury apartment buildings abound, many of them weekend getaways for residents of neighboring states who flock to Dubai to enjoy lavish restaurants and bars often filled with available young women. Then there's all that famous froth such as the indoor ski slope, the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab hotel on the beachfront, and the world's tallest building, the soon-to-open Burj Dubai.
Beneath all the glitz, though, Dubai has become a place where serious business gets done. While the city-state has just 1.6 million residents and a gross domestic product of $80 billion, it is the business gateway for a region with a $1 trillion economy, millions of eager young consumers, and hundreds of billions of petrodollars to invest. Microsoft (MSFT), General Electric (GE), Cisco Systems (CSCO), and a host of other A-list multinationals have flocked to Dubai because of its open culture, top-notch infrastructure, and hassle-free business climate.
And virtually every leading investment bank is present in the Dubai International Financial Center, a lavish gray-granite complex with ornate fountains built on what was a desolate patch of sand just a few years ago. A big draw is the emerging market for Islamic financial services, which has become a $1 trillion business globally. "Dubai will continue to lay the foundations for sustainable growth," says Michael Geoghegan, group chief executive of HSBC, the leading lender in the United Arab Emirates with $611 million in loans out to Dubai World. "I am confident that Dubai and the U.A.E. will overcome any short-term issues they face."

Bank lenders in talks with indebted Dubai World ahead of critical creditors’ meeting

Dubai World’s six biggest lending banks have begun talks with the ailing state-owned group before a crunch creditors’ meeting that is scheduled for December 21. Four British-listed banks — HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group and Standard Chartered — and two local lenders — Emirates National Bank of Dubai and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank — met NM Rothschild and Deloitte, Dubai World’s advisers, in the Group and SGulf State yesterday.
The banks tried to ascertain whether Dubai World would make interest payments due on the bonds of Nakheel, its property subsidiary, next Monday. Last night Dubai World’s intentions remained unclear.
The company said last week that it had asked creditors to restructure almost half its $59 billion (£36 billion) total liabilities, adding that it planned a six-month suspension of all debt repayments. The announcement sparked panic in stock markets around the world as nervous investors worried about a second wave of financial collapses.
The leading banks, which are forming a steering committee to represent all 90 of Dubai World’s bank lenders, also asked for detailed financial information to help them to revalue the company in the event of a default. A source close to the banks said that they will have created the steering committee and formally appointed KPMG as its adviser by Thursday. The accountancy firm has been advising the banks informally for several weeks.
The banks are expected to start formulating their negotiating stance this weekend, ahead of the formal meeting of all Dubai World’s creditors this month in the Gulf State.
Informed sources said that the banks were likely to be far less aggressive than a rival group of bondholders advised by Ashurst, the London-based law firm, because the bank lenders have significant operations in the Gulf and are reluctant to damage relations with Dubai or Abu Dhabi, its oil-rich backer.
The bondholder group advised by Ashurst, which is led by QVT, the American hedge fund, is less concerned about repeat business and has asked legal advisers to assess whether it has a potential claim over Dubai World’s trophy overseas assets, such as P&O, the ferry company. Ashurst declined to comment but it is understood that by yesterday the QVT-led group accounted for about 40 per cent of the holders of Nahkeel’s bonds by value.
Insiders close to the talks said that yesterday’s meeting had been exploratory but would establish the likely direction of future negotiations. The most immediate concern, however, is a $4 billion Islamic bond held by Nakheel, which is due for repayment on December 14. With the Nakheel bond only days away from default, further talks are scheduled this week between Dubai World and its banks and bondholders.
Earlier, a senior Dubai government finance official conceded that Dubai World was prepared to sell some of its key overseas assets as part of the restructuring. The holding company had previously sought to confine the restructuring to its real estate groups, Nakheel and Limitless World, but the comments by Abdulrahman al-Saleh, director-general of Dubai’s Department of Finance, has fuelled speculation that trophy assets such as the QE2 cruise liner and the group’s stake in Canada’s Cirque du Soleil could be sold in an effort to balance the books.
Mr al-Saleh emphasised that the Government itself would not sell any assets to bail out Dubai World.
Bargain-hunters look to cash in
Overseas property investors are “rubber-necking” in Dubai’s downtrodden housing market, trawling websites for evidence of the collapse hitting property prices and the chance to bag a bargain (Rebecca O’Connor writes).
Rightmove Overseas, the international division of the British property website, recorded a 176 per cent rise in the number of searches for bricks and mortar in the emirate in the seven days after Dubai World’s request for a standstill on debt repayments, compared with the previous week. The surge in interest took the monthly increase in searches in Dubai to 45 per cent between October and November, becoming the fourth-most popular country for people interested in property prices.
Housing prices have risen dramatically in Dubai in the past — doubling in the four years to the end of 2008. However, they sank by 47 per cent in the year to September, according to Knight Frank, the estate agency, and are forecast to fall by a further 30 per cent. There are hopes that they could bottom out next year.

How to Look Hot

The first and foremost requirement to look hot is to be of pleasing personality. You need to have social etiquette and an ability to befriend people. Keep up-to-date with current affairs and the latest news, these will work in your benefit as conversation starters. Talk to people when they address you, look into their eyes while talking to them and do not chime into a conversation unless asked or expected to. Do not starve yourself, be healthy and sleep enough! How to Look Hot – Step 2
Personal Hygiene is very very essential. A person should not feel awkward standing next to you. Lets face it, people like to be really close to people who are hot, right? So make sure that you shower daily and that your clothes are clean. Brush your teeth and use a good deodorant. Avoid having hair where they are not required (if you know what I mean). Yes, I know it will not be visible, but it will make a big difference in the way you carry yourself.
How to Look Hot – Step 3
Do not try to follow a fashion trend, if you are not comfortable with it. The biggest mistake that many “wannabe hotties” make is that they blindly follow fashion trends. Honey, you are not a wannabe, so you will not make that mistake. Make sure that you are aware of the latest fashion trends but follow only the ones that suit you. For example, if the new trend is tank top and hot shorts, and if you are a little chubby (not fat, chubby!!) then you can skip the trend and stick to the confidence and comfort of your regular attire.
How to Look Hot – Step 4
Confidence is the key. The most important characteristic that is common in all of the people in the list above is confidence. Inspite of their quirks and flaws, the reason why they have reached a level of being adored and admired is because they are confident in their skin. Once you are confident, no amout of cheerleader bullying and jock talk can take you down! So, be confident and you will radiate a glow that will attract everyone (I am not being philosophical, true story!).
How to Look Hot – Step 5
Be proud of your friends. Always remember, one is what their company makes them, nonetheless, it is not fair to let go of your friends in order to be hot. Ample chick flicks and teen movies would agree with me on this one. Your friends have been with you in your “non hot” days, so don’t dump them ever. They will give you the added confidence and encouragement that you need. Who knows, you’ll could take down that annoying bully gang of hot shots, together?
How to Look Hot – Step 6
The last and most important step is to “not compromise”. Each individual has his/her share and set of principles. It is these principles that define the school of thought and way of life. In fact, it is these principles that make each one attractive and lovable in his/her own way. So, do not compromise on your principles, come what may. These principles will be what you are respected for, so don’t let go of them. Any opportunity that requires you to “drop the principles”, is not worth it!
These steps are very important in being hot and loved for it. It is essential to be a good person from within, to be truly hot! I am sure your questions like “how to look hot?”, ” how to look hot at school?”, ” how to look hot for a boy?” and “how to look hot for guys?” have found their respective answers in this article. Always remember, being hot gives you power and with great power comes great responsibility!
