Hot Pink
Pretty in pink is going to be the slogan for the fall, which might not be such a bad thing. Pink was all over the runway looking chic on dresses, jackets, blouses and even accessories! Anyone can pull off hot pink and if you're scared to go all out, try a hot pink handbag, bangle or even shoes! Of course if pink isn't your thing, relax, yellow is still going strong after making a fine showing this spring.
Daytime Sparkle
Forget everything you know about metallics and sequins being just for the night. Designers are breaking them out for the daytime and bringing some much needed sparkle to gloomy (and often gray) fall and winter weather. Pair them with casual work trousers and under a blazer or even with jeans. Or use a sparkly scarf or belt to dramatically accent a monochromatic look (another of fall's hot trends). A little sparkle goes a long way!
Asymmetrical
Is this style ever out? There's something very sexy yet very chic about a little bare shoulder and obviously designers totally agree. Asymmetrical dresses and tops were all over the runway for fall in all different cuts, colors and styles. Apparently shoulders are the new cleavage!
Gray/Black
If you're a little more conservative and not up to sporting either hot pink or yellow, then you'll have no problem finding plenty of stylish duds to sport come fall. Who knows if it's due to the recession (boo) or not, but there were plenty of neutrals like gray and black all over the runways. Of course mixing and matching these neutrals with some of falls other hot trends, such as sparkles and hot pink also make for a great look.
Shoulder Pads
Calling all '80s fashionistas--time to sift through your closets for your old blazers and suits! Bigger is apparently better and this time it applies to shoulders. These shoulder pads don't give women the appearance of a football linebacker, but instead have a more architectural grace that really appears slimming. The outfit is often contoured down towards the waist so it doesn't have a bulky look at all, but actually looks quite feminine.
Hats
Are we finally catching on that hats are absolutely chic and adorable? Maybe so if the fall 2009 runways are any indication. Many models wore jaunty hats over frilly dresses, sophisticated pantsuits or even gowns. So does this mean we'll be seeing more hats when we walk down the street? Only if we're lucky!
