The U.S. president, Barack Obama, may have misappropriated the work of any author on Tuesday by announcing that someone was preparing a book on the ten letters that he reads every night and that were written by ordinary Americans.
Obama received a folder full of letters every day of his presidency, chosen from among the thousands who come to the Department of Correspondence from the White House every day.
The letters reflect the opinions of Americans concerned with several questions – or problems in their lives.
His aides say Obama reads the letters to feel closer to the public – out of what he calls the “bubble” that’s life in the White House.
On Tuesday, the president asked at a news conference if he feels the suffering of Americans who were affected by the economic recession that may be hurt by spending cuts in social service programs.
“Someone is putting together a book on the ten letters that I receive every day, and came to me yesterday,” Obama said in an interview televised on national and international levels.
“What I told them that I am very inspired by the strength and endurance of the American people, but sometimes I also get frustrated with the number of people out there who are struggling, and you want to help each one individually,” added, perhaps sharing the secret of the author or taking the opportunity to promote her new book.
