Milan Fall 2011 Fashion Week: The Best Of

Saturday, July 2, 2011
With the wrap of Milan Fall 2011 Fashion Week, as the fashion flock moves on to Paris, we've compiled a gallery of the top collections of the week. Think of it as a personal cheat sheet!

With three down and one to go (fashion weeks, that is), some of the major trends of Fall 2011 are taking on life. There's certainly a boudoir theme running rampant, as evidenced by all the lace, corsetry and sheer effects. In Milan, we saw it at Dolce & Gabbana and No. 21, where the house rules practically dictate a bedroom vibe. Tomas Maier at Bottega Veneta made use of lace, but gave it a punked-up ladylike look. And we spotted it at Versus, where Christopher Kane inserted sheer panels in his bodices to expose ribbed corsetry beneath.

There's also a lot of funny stuff going on with fur, including new and innovative trims on clothing, outerwear and accessories. Prada led the way in this department, by trimming coat dresses with wiry, pastel pelts. Consuelo Castiglioni of Marni also had her way with fur, by circling the wrists of her gloves with plush mink, layering striped fox under leather jackets and dying fur coats emerald green.

Finally, we saw a range of bright and interesting colors. At Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier showed pops of neon and acid hues, while Frida Giannini at Gucci celebrated the house's 90th anniversary with electric tones mixed in unexpected combinations. Missoni and No. 21 focused on pastels, an unusual choice for fall. Anna Molinari infused her Blumarine collection with bright primary colors, some of them bordering on day-glo.
